Nach den ersten drei Tagen liegen zwei Teams des Audi Sailing Team Germany auf Medaillenkurs bei der Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta im englischen Weymouth, dem Finale des ISAF Worldcup 2010. Die amtierenden Europameister im Star, Johannes Polgar und Markus Koy liegen nach fünf Rennen auf Platz fünf mit nur einem Punkt Abstand zur Bronzemedaille; Jens Kroker mit seiner Crew Siegfried Mainka und Robert Prem liegen nach sechs Wettfahrten auf Platz Drei in der Sonar-Klasse.
Bei bis zu 30 Knoten Wind, niedrigen Temperaturen, teils heftigem Regen und einer hohen, extrem kurzen Welle – verursacht durch die starke Gezeitenströmung im Englischen Kanal – blieben auch die Deutschen Crews von Kenterungen und Materialschäden nicht verschont. So mussten die 470er-Segler Ferdinand Gerz und Tobias Bolduan nach Mastbruch aufgeben. Von ihren Kenterungen nicht aus der Ruhe bringen ließen sich die Laser-Asse Philipp Buhl und Simon Grotelüschen und setzten sich mit beeindruckenden Leistungen in den Top Ten fest.
Moderate Bedingungen und Sonnenschein am gestrigen Mittwoch bescherten den deutschen Teams zwar nur mittelmäßige Tagesergebnisse, dafür aber wichtige Erfahrungen auf dem Olympia-Revier 2012. „Wir haben heute versucht ein System zu erkennen und waren auch der Meinung eines erkannt zu haben, aber am Ende stellte sich heraus, dass es kein System gab“, sagt Jens Kroker, Goldmedaillengewinner der Paralympischen Spiele von 2008.
Die 470er-Damen des Audi Sailing Team Germany erlebten am Mittwoch einen schwarzen Tag. Nach einem guten ersten Rennen mit einem achten Platz vom Team Tina Lutz / Susann Beucke folgte für sie und das Team Annina Wagner / Marlene Steinherr ein Frühstart mit Black Flag (Disqualifikation) im zweiten Rennen. Ebenfalls unglücklich und äußerst knapp hat Silke Hahlbrock mit Ihrer Schwester Maren und Kerstin Schult den Einzug ins Finale des Damen Matchrace verpasst. „Wir haben wirklich gut gesegelt, sogar zeitweise unsere Gegnerinnen kontrolliert und haben trotzdem einige Rennen um maximal einen halben Meter verloren. Das ist ärgerlich, aber wir können mit unserer Performance trotzdem zufrieden sein. Trotz dieses Ergebnisses sind wir auf dem richtigen Weg.“
